Case Study - National Museum of American Jewish History
After 34 years, the National Museum of American Jewish History (NMAJH) has moved into a sparkling new 100,000 square foot building on Independence Mall in Philadelphia, PA, adjacent to the Liberty Bell. Designed by James Polshek, architect of the Newseum and the Clinton Presidential Center, the five-story building includes 25,000 square feet of gallery space containing more than 50 exhibits. The exhibits deal with immigration, industrialization, tenements and civil rights, anti-Semitism, Hollywood, Broadway, and much more keeping with the theme of the museum, which is freedom.
The opening scheduled for November 26, 2010 was preceded by a star-studded gala featuring Jerry Seinfeld and Bette Midler. The highlight of the evening for CRW Graphics was the debut of the commemorative coffee table book entitled "Dreams of Freedom" that we produced for the gala guests and for the Museum gift store.
The Challenge: Faced with the task of printing and delivering 5,500 smythe-sewn hard cover and 5,000 soft cover books in less than six weeks of production, the Museum trusted CRW Graphics and their "go to" account executive Dean Pugh. With Dean's graphic arts expertise and fanatical attention to detail, the Museum's Executive Director and the book's Philadelphia based Designer, Maria Demopoulos knew that he and the CRW team would make it happen.
The Solution: Due to its sheer scope (252 pages, mixed stocks, two lots, nearly 12 x 9 oblong), many of its requirements taxed the limits of nearly every phase of production. With little room for error, and despite a few necessary course corrections, the presswork made it on schedule to Acme bookbinding, a renowned Massachusetts bindery uniquely suited for the task, and researched by CRW for its sterling reputation and array of equipment.
The result is a detailed legacy of the remarkable story of the Jewish American experience, "Dreams of Freedom." The care, attention and pride invested in the writing and design is self-evident.
Our task, to render a premium vehicle for the story, was achieved, much to the satisfaction of our client. "I appreciate the effort that you displayed on this project. You gave your all and then some to assure that all my demands (and there were many) were satisfied. The book is everything I wanted it to be," said Gwen Goodman, Executive Director. This beautiful book reflects the value of the experience, flexibility and resourcefulness we are proud to have under CRW Graphics' roof.
